Good day!

Please explain Act 2:36. Does this verse tell us that the Divinity of Christ was “made” by God the Father?

St. Jerome rendered it as:

quia et Dominum eum et Christum Deus fecit

which has been translated as “the Lord and Christ whom God has made.”

St. Jerome’s choice of fecit, from facio means not only made, but more broadly caused, produced, brought to pass, effected, commited, perpetrated, formed, fashioned, etc. This is the meaning our Credo captures when we say the son was begotten, not made.

So there is no theological difficulty here, just a little looseness in choosing “made” as the translated verb in English in Acts 2:36.
