However, this woman was definitely not the first woman nor the only woman alive at the time. Similarily, Y Chromosome Adam is the ancester of all males alive now through patrilineal descent; however, he lived many, many thousands of years after Mitochondrial Eve.
It may also surprise some to learn that the most recent common ancester of all human alive today may have lived as little as 1,000 years ago, although it’s more likely that the MRCA lived in the 1st or 2nd millinium B.C.
