Addiction to Video Games

Hi everyone, so here’s my dilemma. My brother, who’s turning five this month, spends all of his time on his I-Pad. I mean literally. He spends hours playing different apps, especially this game called “Roblox,” which I really hate because I’ve caught him doing a lot of questionable things on it. I’ve tried talking to my parents about this, but not much is happening. So I just wanted to ask you guys, what activities can I get him into so that he isn’t on his I-Pad so much? Oh and if you guys can share any resources (websites, articles, etc.) that I could read upon or use to research more about this issue, that would be great. Thanks in advance

Sorry to be blunt, but unless you are your brother’s legal guardian, this isn’t your responsibility. Why do your parents let a not-yet-5-year old spend all of his time on the IPad? So he will shut up and leave them alone? Perhaps suggest to them that he get involved in some sort of sporting activity.

Activities with you.

Have him read books to you, and you read more advanced books that you think would excite him to him. Do things with him–take him out to ride his bike, or play basketball, or go on walks. If he likes dinosaurs, take him to a museum. Go on the internet and look up dino stuff with him. Give him your time. Someone who is interested in you is a lot more interesting than what you can find on an I-Pad. Besides, when your parents are old and you two have to figure out how to take care of them, you’ll be glad you have this foundation with him.

My older brothers took my younger brother (more than ten years younger than they were) all sorts of places. He learned to act in a much more mature way than other kids his age, because my brothers expected that as the price of admission. It served him very well. When he was 13, there wasn’t anyone of any age who didn’t like being around him.

I’m just curious as to how one could do anything “questionable” on Roblox, let alone a 5 year old. What kind of “questionable” things does a 5 year old do in a game like that?
