I have always thought it was because God (Creator) wanted a closer and more intimate relationship with us. Claiming us as His own so we could truly call Him “Father.”

Nothing else but pure, unmerited love. Simply because he wanted to.

Wouldn’t Adam and Eve have had a intimate relationship with God before the fall?

God is our creator, the father of us all, he need not adopt us, for he is already our father.
