I had a Youth Group Solstice Sleepover at my church. We had a rosary while walking around the church, a game of ultimate frisbee, a relay, and finally confession and adoration: first one hour as a group, and then signups for the rest of the night. After the one hour of group adoration, I played tag with some others until my turn. I walked in, sat down, and tried to talk to Jesus. Then I kneeled at the pew and prayed, sat down and read the bible for a bit, and then kneeled and prayed again for the rest of the half-hour. It felt one-sided. Adoration is the only place where Jesus is there physically, and I was about two and a half feet away. Normally kneeling and sitting in a room for half an hour would be boring, but I wasn’t bored because I spent most of it praying earnestly. But I didn’t feel anything. Afterwards, I left and watched Les Misérables and fell asleep. But the most important part for me was going to be adoration. It was the original reason that I had agreed to go to the meeting in the first place. I was finally able to have 1-on-1 time with the Savior of the Universe, but nothing happened. How come? What am I doing wrong? Does Jesus not talk directly to people?

Are you sure you are not mixing feelings with faith. Faith does not require anything but belief. And the biggest belief is that you trust God will finally lead you to heavenly bliss. Jesus does talk to us. That is why we have a conscience. Have blind faith in Jesus and remember what His Mother advised: Do what He tells you to do. God bless you.

Does Jesus not talk directly to people?
A vast majority of the time, no. But! truly focus on Him in your prayers, sometimes you might sense an answer. It is not the same as literally hearing a voice, or having a direct thought, but rather where your thoughts are taken as you continue to pray. It is very subtle. He wants us to have faith. And truly it is great faith to go visit Him, acknowledging His presence, regardless of what we might feel like. Sometimes I have gone into prayer feeling totally dry and disconnected, only to suddenly be overwhelmed with love halfway through; it is truly a gift.

I agree, There will be times when God sends us consolations, but we shouldn’t :expect" them or feel slighted. Your there with Our Lord and HE is with you, It is soo peaceful in the silence. God Bless, Memaw

I’ve spent an hour in adoration and felt nothing.

I’ve also spent five minutes in adoration and been overwhelmed.

Not feeling something is not an indication that Jesus wasn’t there any more than feeling something is an indication that he is. We know that he is because he told us he would be, so our feelings aren’t that important to the issue.

I know that for me, the times when I really feel God’s presence are far fewer in number than the times when I do. To me, it just makes those times that I am really aware of his presence that much better.

“Nothing” happened because God is not like a gumball machine where you put something in and automatically get something in return. Nothing went “wrong” on either your part or God’s part.

Adoration is to be given to God; it is His due and He owes us no response or consolation. I find the time I spend in our Adoration Chapel more of a penance than a privilege. When I reveal this to others they often react with shock but that has been my experience. No matter, I still go every week for at least an hour.

Remember that faith is not about feelings. It is like love, a decision of the will.

You don’t love jesus because he sends you consolations every time you visit, but because he is the object of your loving.

I pray more when I feel him less because I know this pleases him.

Understanding is what you lack, if you truly
go to adoration to SEEK the Lord, He will be
found by you. It is a Spiritual discipline you
have to learn by trial and error, so that you
can know the HEART of God. There is a
Hymn called “Near to the Heart of God”,
saying that Jesus was sent from the heart
of God and pray the Lord to hold us “near
to the Heart of God”. God doesn’t want only
our time, He wants our hearts!
