My parish decided to have monthly adoration to celebrate the Year of the Eucharist. I have volunteered to help. The first month that we did it was February and we had twenty hours from noon on Tuesday Feb. 8 until 9 am on Ash Wednesday.

We are getting ready to do it again and the Parish administrator spoke to me today about “getting together” to discuss it. He says that he thought 20 hours was good for the beginning of Lent but he indicated that he thought it might be too much for every month. The problem he hinted at was that I ended up keeping vigil for 3 hours because no one had signed up from 11 pm to 2 am. I am supposed to meet with him this week to decide what we will do.

I can tell him that I loved spending three hours with the Lord. That I was never alone, and in fact, there was at least one other merely human being there all the time except for about 20 minutes. People came in the middle of the night but maybe they didn’t want to committ to it.

I definitely want to keep the 20 hours every month. Any suggestions to help me prepare my case?

I usually see 12, 24 or 40 hours, 20? Fill up the sheet with names and give it to him saying, the hours are covered, don’t sweat it. Also contact the K of C for help in the late hours.

One other thought – to help fill up nighttime hours, see if you can find a Catholic young adults group near you, or if you have a college nearby, try the Newman Center to see if you can post a notice at the school.

Young adults like me love to fill up night hours 🙂

You may also want to contact your local pro-life organization and ask them if their are any Catholics they know who would like to make a Holy hour for the end of abortion. Best wishes on this endeavor.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. We are pretty rural so there is no college near the parish and the only prolife group in the area is run by the Baptists (Although I am thinking of sending them an invitation to stop by and pray anytime during those hours, anyway)
I called the chief “knight” that I know and he said that he would announce it at his meeting on Thursday night.
I am meeting with the “pastoral admisitrator” on Friday and I am quite sure that if I am adamant, he will cave.

Thanks again.
