Like many, I’ve fallen away from seeing Advent as a penitential season, but this year I will correct that bad habit. What are you doing to prepare? What is traditional in your home?

I try to pray 3 sets of Mysteries of The Rosary every day. I do that mostly when walking my dog and sometimes just by sitting still. The latter I find much harder.
I’m not yet 100% sure, but I may try to pray 2 of 3 sets of mysteries by sitting still.

I always find it hard to be still while praying the rosary. One thing that I find helpful is to actually pray slower. It makes me more comfortable being still.

Yes, I think that may be my penance/preparation. Something I can try to keep even after Christmas. I will also try to be less of a control freak when it comes people around me - I’m already trying that, I have OCD and when it’s not all in scrupulosity, it’s making sure that the place does not get burned down and that nothing bad happens.

EDIT: Do you have anything in mind for your Advent? Would be interested in hearing.

I’ve decided to fast this Advent, as well as devoting extra time for prayer and meditation. I’m also planning on reading the Desert Fathers, but I don’t think that’s strictly advent related. I would love to get advice on what more I could do.

In the past, I chose spiritual books to read.

This year has been so challenging, both with the public stuff every body is dealing with, and a couple of family and work issues, I’m frankly exhausted

No idea, coming here for ideas ha.
I’ll likely abstain from junk, or fast on certain days, and get a prayer schedule going.

I was wondering, is there anything we’re supposed to do?
