The official color for the season of Advent is violet. In order to distinguish between this season and the specifically penitential season of Lent, the bluer hues of violet may be used during Advent. Light blue vestments, however, are not authorized for use in the United States.

The interesting thing about this quote and the discussion here is that it highlights that people simply DO NOT read well. This quote clearly is a statement that blue violet may be worn - but not blue. It recommends no particular color - it simply states you may wear bluish violet but not blue. That is the law and that is all it says. No tradition, no recommendation, no preference - simply a statement that bluish violet is OK and blue is not.
