A friend of mine recently attended a funeral at a Catholic Church. She asked me where she can learn more about Catholicism,. I offered to lend her some of my books am considering which books are the best to learn the faith. I have considered the following
The Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Compendium to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (the Compendium’s Q & A Format and easier read is perhaps less intimidating)
Catholic Dictionary by John A Hardon SJ
Catholicism for Dummies by Frs. Trigilio & Brighenti

I would like to hear about any suggestions and recommendations that I might have missed.

If she wants easier reading there’s the Youcat.
Also did you mention to her about Catholic Answers?

On EWTN (and other Catholic networks) Catholic Answers Live call in show is good source of Catholic information.

Also the Patrick Madrid show on Relevant Radio is similarly a good call in show with good general Catholic informatikn.

I apologize for not remembering specifics, but I remember having reservations about the “Catholicism for Dummies,” when I casually thumbed through it several years ago in a book store, shortly after it was published. I remember thinking that some of the topics were discussed in a more generic way, rather than specifically Catholic. Expecting to find a Cliff’s notes version of Catholicism 101 or a catechism, I was disappointed that what I skimmed over seemed to be somewhat watered down in places, or Catholic Lite.

It was the writings of the Church Fathers and the Doctors of the Church that convinced me to come into full communion with the Church.

Instead of books (because really, who has time for books, lol) why not some podcasts, like Word on Fire Show? They have some very good episodes on “what is the Gospel” “Answering the Atheists” “Understanding the Eucharist” “Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead” and a lot of “Listener Q&As” which are always fun
