This week i really blew it, im feeling quite disheartened, im unsure if god will forgive me.

don’t feel disheartened. Go to confession again and again

Try not to look at porn
It’s an exercise and a discipline to resist temptation. The more you resist it the easier it gets to resist. Especially with porn.
I used to look at porn all the time and have impure thoughts… etc.
I gradually started to see how it hurt God and how it drove me further from him.
Now it got a lot easier.
If I have the urge I ask for help to resist the temptation and I know it is a demon influencing me to do it. At least I think like that and so I say to myself no way this demon is going to win me.

Jesus to St. Faustina -

"My mercy is greater than your sins and those of the entire world. Who can measure the extent of my goodness? For you I descended from heaven to earth; for you I allowed myself to be nailed to the cross; for you I let my Sacred Heart be pierced with a lance, thus opening wide the source of mercy for you. Come, then, with trust to draw graces from this fountain. I never reject a contrite heart. Your misery has disappeared in the depths of My mercy" (Diary, 1485).
Jesus to Catalina:
The Passion - loveandmercy.org/Eng-TP-Reg.pdf

13) My children, poor sinners! Do not distance yourselves from Me. I wait for you night and day at the Tabernacle. I will not reproach you for your crimes; I will not throw your sins in your face. What I will do is to wash you with the Blood of My wounds. Do not be afraid; come to Me. You do not know how much I love you.
God Bless

Thank you for reading

As long as you’re not committing the sin of presumption (by sinning with the glib knowledge that you need only confess it), you’re slowly growing in grace. This situation helps you develop humility. These are difficult sins to overcome. Keep asking for grace. Understand that will power alone will not keep you from sinning. It takes total reliance on God. Ask for the grace of contrition. Unlike violence or theft or calumny, sexual sins are “attractive sins” which appeal to the senses. Ask God for the grace to see these sins as he sees them. Eventually, your perseverance will be rewarded. Don’t lose hope. Don’t stop trying.

In the meanwhile, try to avoid the occasions of sin. Don’t be alone when you’re on the computer and avoid the places/situations where you typically commit repeated sins. Ask God and your guardian angel to cause distractions when you’re on the way to committing these sins. Trust me, certain promptings will occur: the phone will ring or something else will happen which presents an opportunity to step away. Also ask for the grace to respond to these promptings rather than ignore them and persist on the path to sin.

“When Sister Mechtilde was once praying for someone who was afraid God had not forgiven a fault he had committed, the Lord told her: ‘That would be impossible. Whosoever regrets his sins receives their pardon from Me. If he continues to grieve for them, I give My grace in addition.’” (Rev. Auguste Saudreau)

“Without abstinence it is impossible to repress the assaults of the flesh. Therefore, let those who wish to conquer it take the proper means by practising mortification of the senses and especially of the body.” (Jesus to St. Margaret of Cortona)

Pray this prayer whenever you are tempted to impurity: “Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!” It will work wonders if you stay faithful to this practice.

I have been to confession this evening about a serious matter that was weighing heavily on my conscience. My confessor was a wonderful, warm priest. After pouring out all the sins, receiving absolution, walking out of church, the sense of relief, of God’s forgiveness was indescribable. I couldn’t stop the tears.

I think if we are truly contrite, then by the power of God’s grace, we will grow in wisdom, and learn to avoid temptation.
Confession is a truly great gift. It’s best to receive it as soon as possible after you have fallen into sin.

Byzantium,
The eyes are the windows to the mind, and then to the heart, and must be guarded at all costs. That’s why porn is so dangerous because the eyes stimulate the thoughts that result in sin. But you know that already. Consider these scriptures.
  1. Gen 39:7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph, and said, Lie with me!
  2. Job 31:1 I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.
  3. Mt. 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
The start of your deliverance is to take custody of your eyes, in order to guard your heart.

Secondly, take custody over your thoughts that originate in your mind with a memory of prior pleasure that causes a reaction in the body that screams for satisfaction. The only remedy is to refuse admittance to those thoughts as soon as one is aware of them, using perhaps a diversion tactic that works well for you, in order to distract the thought and refuse admittance.

Thirdly, at such times, replace these thoughts when they occur with holy remembrance of God’s infinite love and goodness to you. Be creative - make a list of the hundreds of ways that God has blessed you, and reflect upon your list during the time of temptation. It will be awfully difficult to snub one’s nose at the immense goodness of God and His love toward you.

Sometimes, it is a certain place that stimulates remembrance of the sin. Try playing a good tape of religious music in that place to keep your mind focused on Our Lord.

Let’s now begin to celebrate your victory over this, one day at a time. AMEN! 👍

Of course God will forgive you. Masturbation and porn are incredibly hard to free yourself from once they get a hold on you, but “with God nothing is impossible”. Pray for an infusion of grace–you can’t do it yourself, but God sure can.

Proverbs 24:16 For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.

A disciple came to a certain Elder, one day, and said, “Father, I have fallen!”

The Elder answered, “Get up!”

Again and again he came to the Elder and said, “I have fallen!”

And the Elder invariably answered, “Get up!”

“Until when must I continue getting up?” the disciple asked.

And the Elder answered, “Until the day when you give up your soul to God!”

Thus, every time when we feel that we have fallen, the Sacrament of Repentance tells us to get up.

Here is the prayer of absolution that Melkite Catholic priests use for Confession:

God, through Nathan the Prophet, forgave David his sins; and Peter, shedding bitter tears over his denial; and the Adulteress, weeping at His feet; and the Publican and the Prodigal Son. May this same God, through me a sinner, forgive + you, [Name], everything in this life and in the life to come. And may He make you stand uncondemned before His awesome Judgement Seat for He is blessed forever and ever. Amen.
St David committed adultery and then had the woman’s husband killed. God forgave St David through St Nathan the prophet. It is the same way that God forgives us our embarrassing mortal sins through the priest when we confess them. He desires that everyone repents.

Ezekiel 33:11 Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live.

You do not lose the battle against sin until you quit getting up (i.e. give up struggling against it).

Abba [St] Anthony [the Great] said to Abba Poemen, ‘This is the great work of a man: always to take blame for his own sins before God and to expect temptation to his last breath.’

We will be tempted. We will likely have shortcomings in the future. Thankfully we have the Sacrament of Confession.

“Did you commit sin? Enter the Church, repent for your sin, for here is the physician, not the judge. Here one is not investigated; one receives remission of sins.” - St John Chrysostom

And remember that Christ gave the authority to absolve sins to the Apostles and their successors. Christ is not a liar; if you make a good Confession and the priest absolves you, you are forgiven. 🙂

For it has not been said to them, “Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.” They who rule on earth have indeed authority to bind, but only the body: whereas this binding lays hold of the soul and penetrates the heavens; and what priests do here below God ratifies above, and the Master confirms the sentence of his servants. For indeed what is it but all manner of heavenly authority which He has given them when He says, “Whose sins ye remit they are remitted, and whose sins ye retain they are retained?” What authority could be greater than this? “The Father hath committed all judgment to the Son?” But I see it all put into the hands of these men by the Son. - St John Chrysostom, On the Priesthood, Book 3:5

The Act of Contrition ends with, “I firmly resolve, with the help of thy grace, to sin no more and to AVOID THE NEAREST OCASION OF SIN”. What changes have you made, or could you make, in your life to do that? Of course God will forgive you, but it takes more than sinning and running to confession every week to be truly repentant. You are stuck in an unhealthy cycle and if you don’t get help to stop, you will eventually be so overwhelmed by guilt and remorse, even confession will seem meaningless.

This is exactly my position. I’m so overwhelmed by guilt and failure that I realize confession is of no use any more (30+ years in my case). I’ve made countless novenas, and rosary novenas, and asked the intercession of everyone I can think of. Either God isn’t giving me grace, or I’m immune to it, so I can only conclude that I am not really a sheep of Christ’s flock, but rather a goat.

Meh.

You should check this Catholic website: integrityrestored.com/TheAddictivenessOfPornography

If you attack a spiritual and biological problem only spiritually, you will fail. You must get help for both. Just as a repentant heroin addict has to deal with the spiritual and biological, so do those who are addicted to porn. 🙂

A lot of us go through this. God forgives, but we need to let ourselves be forgiven. That being said, a confession comes with the intention not to do these things again. A sense of failure can come when we confess, but know we’ll fall into the sin again, anyway.

You need to do new things to master these tough struggles (which, I suspect, are addictions for you.)

I use the Fortify program. Consider it - it has helped me overcome these things.

Just for the sake of any scrupulous readers of this thread: what you describe as presumption is really just evidence that someone freely chose to commit a particular sin. It can be used in an examination of conscience to show that someone probably has moral culpability for their actions, as opposed to working under such psychological pressure that they cannot give proper consent of will.

But it is not so much a separate sin, and it isn’t even presumption per se, which would be sinning because you think God will ultimately forgive you *whatever you do or don’t do, *and that therefore, repentance is not ever necessary, to say nothing of confession.

Forgive me, but I really wanted to make this distinction.
