Well guys I got talked into volunteering to teach a pre confirmation class this year. Does anybody have any good tips or advice they can give me. I’m trying to remember what I didn’t in the preconfimation class when I went thru it but can only remember confirmation class for some reason. Anyways any help would be awsome, I’m teaching 9th graders I think, Ill double check.

Get together with the Director of Religious Education (DRE) at your parish, and see if he/she has some kind of outline that you can build upon.

first meet with the DRE and find out if the parish or diocese has a required curriculum and follow it. This is not the time to DIY, because the Confirmation II catechists will expect the children to have receive the required basics before they come to the sacramental class.

What should be taught for the first time (if they have not been to RE since first communion) is Divine Revelation and how to use, read and pray with the Bible, the basics of Salvation History, grace and redemption, the sacramental economy and how to participate at Mass, review of confession, elements of the Creed, and depending on when it is covered in your parish program, moral life in Christ. Christian prayer and spirituality is woven throughout the program.

when you find out the demographics of your class, and the framework the parish already has set up, come on back for more ideas.

Gonna have a meeting tommorow about the curriculum and the materials will be passed out. Ill let ya guys know tommorow what’s expected. Thanks

you can do this
if you have been confirmed the Holy Spirit has already poured out upon you the gifts you need for this apostolate

Thanks, got to admit I’m a little excited and nervous about teaching. But 1 hour shouldn’t be too bad and I doubt the class will be big.

Well, got my materials today and well its well laid out. Comes complete with handouts and everything. I know this won’t be easy but I’m really looking forward to this.

Good day,
I just started teaching in our Religious Education Program in the Pre-Confirmation class. I’m interested in getting some advise regarding teaching this class, including any curriculum information, lesson plans and potential handouts. I’ve checked with our Coordinator of Religious Education but they don’t seem to have any. Any help available? Thanks for any assistance possible. Blessings.

I DID this for three years:D

It is critical to INSURE that they know the BASICS of our catholic Faith. DON"T ASSUME THAT THEY DO; most DO NOT:o

So STRESS the basics

Who and what is God

A brief history of the CC and its formation [proven from the bible]

Cover ALL seven sacraments ESPECIALLY in depth the Sacraments of Confession, SIN and the REAL PRESENCE

How to USE the bible

PRAYER

The Commandments [as catagories of sins] not the “list of possible sins”

Grace; it’s forms and importance

Be as inter-active as POSSIBLE but KEEP control of the class

THANKS for your ministry!

I’ll pray for your success!

Thank you both for responding to my question. I sincerely appreciate your taking the time to respond. I’ll do my best as I continue trying to bring the love and understanding of our Faith to these students. Blessings to all!
