I have a friend whose husband used to be a fundamentalist minister. We lost touch and I don’t know the whole story, but he turned away from Christianity and became an angry atheist, writing several books and doing radio programs.

I have been praying for him to return to God, and on Easter Sunday he did. I’m thrilled for them both - it was a rough 10 years for my friend who kept the faith!

Now I’m wondering if there is a book I can send to him about Catholicism. He is an intellectual and still rejects fundamentalism; I suspect he has many wrong ideas about Catholics but could very well find a home with us.

I’m open to any suggestions!

Maybe The Lamb’s Supper by Scott Hahn Minister turned Catholic or the YouCat.

I’ve had more than one family member try to give me books on their respective faiths. I didn’t want them. I have some books sent to me, internationally, that I still have on my shelf, haven’t read. Well, they weren’t something I wanted to read. I felt these were given to me in an attempt to convert me, and I didn’t want to be converted. Some are okay with the Catholic Church, and those books I kept.

The materials against my faith went straight into the garbage.

If you want to send these to your friend, you might want to first ask him if he is interested in reading one of these. If he says he’s not, then send him something else.

Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic by David Currie amazon.com/dp/089870569X/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_1WCwtb185J05S

Now may be too soon though. I am a book fiend and in my first few weeks of mass attendance, I was given several books by strangers (a priest, helpful parishioners, staff) and and found several other freebies in the entryway of a local parish. I gobbled them all up but my heart was already set on the Church, I just needed to convince my head. 😉

Depends on what you are looking for, but I would say that Theology and Sanity by F.J. Sheed is pretty good as an introduction.

Thank you all! And you may be right that I should ask before sending anything. His wife is my friend, but he & I didn’t really know each other well other than to say “hi.”

I’ll approach her, see if he would be interested and if so, you gave me some good selections to consider. Thank you all for your (name removed by moderator)ut! 👍
