Advice on asking for a Spiritual Director

hello,

i have just moved to a new state and think it would be a wonderful time for me to find a spiritual director. i also would really like to make a general confession since i have only recently become really serious about my faith. so i would like a spiritual director to help me through this process as well. does anyone have any advice as to how to ask a priest if he is available to be a spiritual director or how to get recommendations when you might not necessarily be super-familiar with the priests?

Well, I hope the forum doesn’t mind my creating this new thread on behalf of the original poster. I just didn’t think this question would get adequate answer and review in the thread it was originally posted in. I myself am not sure the answer to the question. How much time does it take for someone to be a Spiritual Director?

My Parish shares one full time priest with another Parish, and we don’t have any Sisters or full time deacons either. So, I will enjoy any answers to the OP’s question.

JOL,

Something that would be wise to do is to start a novena to the Holy Ghost, asking for his guidance. He will put someone in your path, at least down the road if not immediately. A way to learn if the priest before you could be your spiritual director is to go to confession to him. That means even looking outside of your parish. Depending on your locale, larger towns/cities have more than one church. I would see about who the senior priests are in the area. Even if they don’t have regular confession schedules due to their current assignment/retirement, many are willing to set up appointments to hear ones confession and speak about things. I pray that Our Lady will lead you to the priest who can help and guide you the most.
