Hey all,
I’ve been giving a lot of thought recently to starting a ministry to offer missions to churches within our diocese or nearby. Most of the missions I’ve attended and have studied on line tend to be very spirituality-based. Don’t take this the wrong way - I want that to be an integral part, but what I mean to say is that the topics tend to be things like “Prayer in a busy world” or “Trusting God in Times of Pain”. Nothing wrong there at all, but I sense a hunger for missions that are more apologetics focused. Do these exist commonly, outside of hiring speakers through groups such as CA? I’d love to help deliver something that is a combination of basic apologetics and spirituality. I’ve had a lot of opportunities lately to give talks at very local parishes, on topics such as “How to Answer Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormon Missionaries” and the vocation of marriage. I’ve also been leading a self-generated apologetics study on the usual list of disputed Catholic doctrines. Through the guidance of the holy Spirit, these have all gone very well and have been received with enthusiasm, so I’m ready to take it to the next level.
Second question: does anyone here have any experience giving or working with missions and have any advice on getting started, promoting, and deciding on topics? In the next few days, I want to write up a cover letter of introduction for myself and the topics on which I can present. I’ve made a lot of connections with priests of various parishes. What next?
Thanks,
Spencer
