I’ve struggled with scruples on and off since I’ve been catholic, which is about 5 years. It’s only certain issues I’ll struggle with. Most of the time I’m fairly certain it’s on issues that aren’t sins but for some reason I’ll start a never ending internal dialogue with myself on why it is or isn’t mortal sin. I would then consistently go to different priests to get advice because I would think the priest was too liberal or being too easy on me or was misinformed.
I’ve recently started getting help from just one priest and asking him for advice on what is or isn’t sin. This has helped a lot. However sometimes it can still be hard not to doubt him. I sometimes wonder if I should confess the things that he says aren’t sins just to be safe. However I know I should be obedient to him unless he directly says something that contradicts church teaching.
With all that said, what is some things you guys have done to overcome scruples? I’m just looking for prayers, saints, teachings, or anything that has helped anyone.
