After Scientology, Leah Remini Finds ‘Amazing’ Comfort In Catholic Church

I’m still frankly surprised (for lack of a better word) that there was very little outrage, particularly in Catholic circles, to the alleged pro-abortion policies of Scientology as alleged in the book “Going Clear,” which was subsequently a documentary on HBO. Many of those exact same allegations, reading between the lines since “20/20” didn’t address the alleged abortion-related policies, showed up on her “20/20” interview.

I have been following her story since she left. Her real doubts began at Tom Cruise’s wedding to Katie Holmes.

At the reception she asked then Scientology spokesman Tommy Davis the question of where her friend Shelley Miscavige(wife of David Miscavige, current Leader and who officiated that wedding) was. Shelley has not been publically seen for many many years(and still hasn’t been seen) and Leah, her friend, dared asked what happened to her. She was literally told it was “above your paygrade” in no uncertain terms.

Because apparently this religion doesn’t like it when people care about their friends enough to ask “what happened?”. This is why this group has been in strong decline for several years now.

I think Catholics could choose to protest scientology, but the group is already protested by a significant faction of journalists, ex-members(these seem to be the most vocal) and even the Anonymous hacker group. Many famous ex-members are already known Catholics like Remini and both Kidman and Holmes.

I am happy for those who leave Scientology.

Not enough Catholics are protesting Scientology as part of what it means to be “pro-life,” and that’s seriously mind-boggling to me. How can someone be “pro-life” except for when it involves Scientology? From the web site you cite:

“Child labor. We hear it all the time. If Scientology is taking advantage of children, why doesn’t someone do something about it? You got us. All we’ve been doing is investigating cases like the one that’s been going on for years in Los Angeles: Laura DeCrescenzo is suing Scientology for the way she was treated as a child in the church’s “Sea Org.” At 12 years old, after signing the Sea Org’s billion-year contract (yes, you read that right), she was working 98-hour weeks. At 13, she moved up to an adult schedule of 112-hour weeks. Her take home pay was standard Sea Org — about 50 dollars a week. Documents in her lawsuit (which Scientology went to the US Supreme Court to keep out of the case, but failed) show that she was punished for missing her family — at twelve years old. At 17, while still technically a child, Laura got pregnant, and claims that she was coerced into having an abortion (having children is against the rules in the Sea Org). [emphasis added] Laura’s trial starts on December 7, 2015, and we hope at that point we’re not the only news organization in America following the ups and downs of her case.”

Lawsuit alleging that a Scientologist was “coerced into having an abortion” and there’s nothing but crickets chirping in Catholic circles? Where’s LifeSite News and A.L.L. when you need them? 🤷
