I’m excited to begin RCIA next month. It starts mid-september. Does anyone know, roughly, when the Rite of Acceptance takes place in relation to the start of RCIA?

Does it happen at just one ceremony? Or do they have several, depending on which Mass celebrations the inquirers regularly attend?

If there is anything else you’d like me to know about RCIA based on your experience, please let me know! I am very well catechized at this point, and all my focus has been on growing in holiness through Christ by way of the Blessed Mother, as well as reading the writings of the Saints (currently St. Louis Marie de Montfort, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. John of the Cross).

I am really praying that these next 8 months go by quickly.
If you remember me in your prayers, please pray for me!

Thank you!

In my parish, the Rite of Acceptance is on the 1st Sunday of Advent. The whole class attends the same Mass and goes through it together as a group. It is the first time the parish is “formally” introduced to the class and we can get to know them and welcome them whenever we see them around. After the Rite of Acceptance, time goes by really fast and this time next year, you will be receiving the Eucharist. Welcome Home!! :grouphug:

Welcome! 👋

A lot of parishes have the Rite of Acceptance on the first Sunday of Advent (December 3rd this year), but the Rites don’t actually specify the date.

The Rite book actually encourages parishes to have two or three fixed dates during the year for the Rite of Acceptance (and then people go through the rite when they are ready). I don’t know that many parishes actually do it that way, though. I can’t imagine that a parish would celebrate it at several Masses on the same day. I suppose it’s possible, but not likely.

So the short answer is: ask your parish. 🙂

The goal of the Rite of Acceptance is that people have been sufficiently evangelized and pre-catechized and are now ready to publicly state their intent to become Catholic. So it’s generally not right away, but not too far along in the process either. I think that’s why many parishes choose the beginning of Advent. It’s sort of a natural place to put it.

Welcome home! It is always heartwarming to sense the excitement of those coming into the faith. Our faith is energised by the energy New converts bring to the faith. Best wishes and prayers to come your way. God Bless!

Normally it does happen at one Mass unless the parish is huge and can’t accommodate a large number of inquirers at one time. It’s a simple rite and your RCIA director can give you far more information about what will happen.

Your best source of information about what happens in RCIA is your RCIA director. We all come from different parishes of different sizes, and different Bishops. While RCIA is fairly uniformed, there are always little differences of how programs are delivered. You can get answers to you questions here but we can only speak for the parish(es) we’ve belonged to, not yours.
