What did Jesus do after the resurrection…according to scripture he was on earth for 40 days before his ascension into heaven…did he preach to anyone…was he with the Apostles…was he in hiding because the Jewish leaders would have been searching for him after the empty tomb…so would the Romans have been searching for him…why is scripture silent on what he did during that time

He presented Himself to the two disciples who were on the road to Emmaus, both Mary’s, and all of the apostles, and that’s just who we’re told about. I might guess that He spent some time appearing to other disciples as well, but there’s nothing definitive. As for why the gospel authors are silent about this period, I would say it’s because it ultimately wasn’t as important as His Resurrection and Ascension, and would have added non-essential details of His ministry.

ok…I agree that sounds plausible…I wonder if there are any writings from the early church fathers that might shed light on that period of time between his resurrection and ascension…any tradition from the early church

3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
(1 Cor 15:3-8)

There was no need for him to be in hiding. His enemies could not do anything more to him, since they already killed him once and he wouldn’t suffer pain or death again. Also, he likely didn’t even look like the Jesus who had died, because both Mary Magdalene and the disciples on the road to Emmaus did not recognize him at first. In any event, he could have simply disappeared if the need arose.

And yet he appeared to the Apostles…including (doubting) Thomas…and they all recognized him…hmm…sorry… just having some relaxing Sunday evening musings after saying our prayers…nothing to shake my faith or cause me to lose sleep over…thanks for all your (name removed by moderator)uts by the way.

Peter, James and John had already seen Jesus “transfigured” in his glorified body on the mountain with Moses and Elijah, and presumably, he looked the same way when he came back after death. They would have confirmed to the other apostles that it was Jesus come back.

At the end of John’s gospel, he notes “Jesus did many other things” to the extent that the world couldn’t contain the books. I’ve always taken that to mean he spent the time between resurrection and ascension imparting knowledge and wisdom to his early Church (Apostles). After all, we go from the Peter we knew, who still had to ask questions while Jesus is saying “Feed my sheep” and getting him back in line to a Peter and others in Acts who are bolder and more confident, making decisions and acting like we would expect leadership to act.

This more bold Peter in Acts is also after he has been commissioned, effectively ordained to the ministry.

I always interpreted this ending as meaning there are many more stories of Jesus that have not been told or known (since Gospel of John is a collection of stories). Each Gospel includes stories that are in some other Gospels but not all or perhaps unique to the specific Gospel. I think this is what John is getting at with there being many more stories

Yeah one thing that is not mentioned after the resurrection but IMO would have happened is Jesus instructing the women around him to carry out special missions: His mother first of all, but also Magdalene, Martha and others.

John 21:25

Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

He most certainly did , and on a truth we could do with being taught about today .

" After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God ." (Acts 1:3)
