Again we wait for the Islamic outrage...and wait...and wait.

And how do you know whether or not I’m well read 😃 ? In any case, you said not to expect an answer, I’ve answered. We’ll see where the rest of this debate goes.
I made the assertion of your not being well read based on some of your comments. It was harsh, and I retract that statement.

I see that you did come out against the 9-11 attacks, and I thank you for doing so. Now if we could just get some Muslims to do the same. However, and as I have mentioned time and again, they have their reasons for not doing so.

I understand, but one of my points is that without proof this is just speculation about the motives of the entire Muslim Ummah. As i said before, SOME Muslims have condemned these attacks, but they condemnations were either not high profile enough, or were simply ignored by the media. You can’t expect all Muslims to protest every time another Muslim does something terrible like this.

You are correct.

My point is that the majority of the Islamic population does not openly appear to be particularly outraged, and thus I raise this question: What if they quietly support these actions of terror, and we are all sitting by in denial of that?

Now I know that this is speculation on my part, but it is also speculation to assume that most Muslims denounce these actions. The point of this thread is to create that dialogue. This would not be necessary if Muslims would, in large part, come out in force to denounce these people. We are not seeing that. Not even on the net where they could make their views loud for everyone to hear without worry of media bias.

For instance, I was angry when after a group of 5,000 protested in Washington to massive media coverage about the war in Iraq there was NO coverage at all of a pro life march in Washinton two days later in which 250,000 people showed up. Clearly in that case, the media has bias.

Yet, it was covered on the net by people who were there and wanted the world to know where they stood on the issue regardless of the media coverage. In short, that is my point. Why is it that if Muslims around the world are so outraged by terror, are they not speaking out in open forums in mass?

This is why I pose the question of possible silent support of terrorist actions. Could it be that we have all been lied to about the true motives of Islam? Could it be that quietly the people of Islam support actions against Jews and Christians? These are questions that haunt me.

Speaking from the experience of the large number of Muslims I am friendly with, I wouldn’t think that they are all ‘‘out to get us’’ so to speak but you are right in that we can never know anybodies true intent. I agree with you that the media is biased, but I do feel that it is anti Islamic as well as anti Catholic.

However I feel I must point out, you said the point of this thread was to initiate dialogue and provide a place for moderate Muslims to voice their opinions on terrorist atrocities. Maybe the title of the thread shouldn’t have been so provocative?

I do have a knack for the provocative. I tend to do that to draw attention to the thread. Sorry if it got you heated up! 😉

Now, as you poined out, we do have some Muslims out there that visit this forum. Notice that they have not knocked us over with their anti-terror thoughts on this thread.

I apprciate your point of view, I just want you to consider mine for a bit as well. I thank you, sincerely, for you thoughts.

Didn’t bother me, I’m not Muslim :p. Anyway good debate but I have things I need to be doing, maybe we’ll pick this up tomorrow.

Seems to me there is shame enough to go around, regardless of religion or culture.

Without question. There is no religion out there that has not gone through some dark times. Still, the key is owning up to it when you are wrong. Additionally, one needs to stand up and freak out when someone tries to hijack your religion. My issue, as I have stated, is if the Muslims are so angry about the people killing in the name of Islam, why do they not go out of their way to let us know that?

I personally wonder if it is because there is some support for these crazy people out there. I am not going to go so far as to say it is PART of Islam, although I could back that up in the Koran, but I do wonder if silence on this madness does not equate to support.

Yes. There is no doubt that the media has bias. But I firmly believe, that if a large or prominent group of muslims came out against terrorism, the media would jump all over it! I believe that the media is actively looking for this moderate and peaceful muslim voice, and for the most part, it is not there. 😦

Certainly not, LDN. You sound kindly, intelligent, sane, and humane to me, for whatever that may be worth.

And cruelty and madness aren’t exclusive to ANY group of people, Christian, Muslim, black, white, vegetarian, Canadian…

I do know that both Muslim and Christian religions understand that we are all ‘our brother’s keepers,’ whether in your faiths or no, if that helps put anything in perspective. It cannot to me, as a faith, but as an ethic…oh yes it does, and more. The Moralist of Galilee (you know, Jesus of Nazareth) is a great inspiration to anyone paying attention, too – we are neighbors in this world. Love thy neighbor as thyself? You can’t go far wrong there, and Muslims revere him as well. Look to what is the same between you first.

Ok, here is another example of just what I am talking about. In this case, a protestant church in Indonesia gets stormed by not 1 but over 100 Muslems. The place get destroyed and there is NO public outcry about it…none…at all…from one of the largest Islamic countries in the world. What are we to think about that? Sound like silent support to you? You just have to wonder.

And what are we to make of the anti-Muslim attacks (and anti- non-Muslim! some were attacked because their Hindu worshippers looked ‘middle-eastern’ to the attackers 😦 ), mosques and temples trashed and desecrated and even murders committed here in the US? Not to mention the attacks on homes and businesses, and running-out-on-rails from zealot communities here in our so-free nation.

I suggest thinking hard before answering.

Well…I thought hard…and I looked pretty hard…and I do not see anywhere in the US that this has happened. So, would you like to back that up with a source for me?

Thanks!

According to a recent Pew Poll some 26 percent of American Muslims, ages 18-29, support suicide bombings “in defense of Islam”.

According to Pew, there are 2.35 million Muslims in America, 30 percent of whom are in the 18-29 age range. Some claim that the number of Muslims is in fact much larger. Even using the conservative Pew numbers, over 180,000 Muslims in America is bomb-approving. This is an alarmingly large number,** given that Muslims, as an article of faith, practice dissimulation in dealing with infidels and under-report their true intentions. **How many human bombs and bomb-approving people does it take to wreak havoc on our country? See the whole article here.

So even if Muslims claim to be against violence, how can we be sure that they’re actually telling us the truth??

There’s one, just off the top of the hive-mind. I was thinking of the rather more publicized one in Chicago, but there have been several incidents. I’ve lived in Indianapolis for a while, and I know news isn’t all that easy to get there, if you limit your sources to those which limit themselves to an agenda. In that case one should consider reading NUVO, simply because they have their finger on the pulse of the city so directly at times, whether or not you agree with all they may espouse. Their tales of living in the city, which are as close to the third-world as the US can get (ie, very close) should bring anyone to mourn and rejoice at the persistence of humanity.

Also, Booklover, how many Americans between the ages of 18 and 26 does that survey say are in support of continuing aggressions in Iraq? Sauce for the goose, is it?

Attacks on Sikhs have risen since 9/11 as well as Hindus realsikhism.com/turban.html
Sikhs are not Muslim, but they wear turbans and have long beards as a religious requirement. Yet they fit the post 9/11 perception of what a Middle Eastern terrorist should look like-brown skin, beard, turban…

I saw other article with this same info searching the web just now… it’s very interesting and very disturbing.

Ok, so going on the numbers we see here, a large segment of the Islamic population supports the terror idea? Sure looks that way. To that end, I wonder if this message of Islam being a religion of peace holds up…thoughts?
