At the Pope’s Mass on New Year’s Day I noticed the servers were wearing albs/amices rather than a cassock and a surplice or cotta at St. Peter’s. Is this change to show the difference between the ordained and the non-ordained?
I think it was nice to have a clear distinction between the ordained men who were not celebrating (they wore cassocks and surplices) and the servers (they wore albs and amices) except I’m not sure that was the intention.
