He is a very nice guy. I had the privilege of meeting him when I competed on Jeopardy! and experienced firsthand an incident that demonstrated this.
At Final Jeopardy there were only two of us as one player ended in the red. (For those dying to know, while I had the correct Final I didn’t have enough money so I came in second; and I’ll enjoy watching the tournament of champions next week as the person I played with is competing --best of luck!!)
Anyway, as Alex came over to talk to the three of us after the show, he came first to the person who had ended in the red and said, “Now don’t you feel bad about not being in final. I could see that you knew the answers but those two --pointing to me and the other player–were just too quick on the buzzer”.
How about that for class? His first concern was for the person who didn’t even compete in final jeopardy. And in the way he phrases, "those two’ he also made me better, and helped to put all THREE of us on equal footing and respect, no matter who won.
And he did this when he himself was ill.
Alex Trebek is simply a wonderful caring human being and I pray for a miracle for him.
