Alexandria vs. Rome

I was having a discussion with my brother and he stated that he remembered reading about a very early disagreement between the Bishop of Rome and the Bishop of Alexandria. This was in the context of discussing the primacy of the Bishop of Rome.

Does any one out there have a clue as to what he was talking about?
 
The disagreement may have had more to do with Constantinople and Alexandria. Constantinople wanted primacy over all others except Rome. All appealed to Rome.

In our conversation, I suggested that and he said no it was Alexandria and way before the orthodox split.
 
This would have happened abt 700 years before the split.
