Has anyone heard of the book “All Kinds of Families” by Norma Simon? My son is in Kindergarten, and his teacher put it on his reading list. I did a web search and this book seems to be associated with a lot of books themed on “diversity”. Should I be conscerned about my son reading this?

Thanks for your help.

here’s some reviews I found that seem somehwhat reassuring

**Book Review: Disappointment **
**Rating: **1 starsThe title in no way comes close to describing different families. If your a male and a female with a house that seems to be the “typical family” this book refers to . There is no hint of diversity. **Book Review: Disappointing **
**Rating: **2 starsI found this book to be a real disappointment. While the words “all kinds of families” seem to open up a world of possibilities, the pictures tell a different story. Yes, the families may be black or white, old or young, married or divorced, or even include someone who is in jail. HOWEVER - the pictures almost always show an adult male and an adult female. As a single mother of two children, both of whom came to me through donor insemmination, I do not feel that this book sends an inclusive message to families that do not include a father figure.

The original publishing date was 1976 so I doubt there much of a pc agenda going on.

Kindergarten books generally take about 10 minutes to read through. I suggest finding one at your local library, or go to the teacher to ask to read the classroom copy, then decide for yourself.

Yes, run - not walk - your dc out of that class! They tried using that in the preschool here back when my oldest went. The book itself seems more pc and sappy than anything (which is irritating enough, imo), but the teaching being done around it is very “open” to anything and certainly not anywhere near what we as Catholics should be teaching our children to aspire to in the forming of family values. The basic teaching is relativity -conveys the message that all the various “alternative lifestyles” are okay.
