What are the different ceremonies(if any) that your church observes during/after mass on All Souls day. Are there any personal traditions that you or your family observe?

well in our family no one was buried nearby so we never visited the cemetary, although for a while in one parish we helped clean the gravesites, mow the grass and stuff for untended graves.

since moving here to SoTex I am learning about the day of the dead and the beautiful customs surrounding it, which show the underlying belief of our ultimate hope of heaven, scorn of death and evil, and the knowledge our faithful departed are not lost, only gone before.

I found some really wonderful things regarding All Souls Day, and the celebration of it, both in the liturgy and also “family traditions” – here: catholicculture.org/lit/calendar/day.cfm?date=2005-11-02
For instance:
**
Indulgenced Acts for the Poor Souls
A partial indulgence can be obtained by devoutly visiting a cemetery and praying for the departed, even if the prayer is only mental. One can gain a plenary indulgence visiting a cemetery each day between November 1 and November 8. These indulgences are applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory.

Please take a look at the website, its worth it.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

That is so nice kleary!!

The only thing I noticed different during the Mass we had was we did the Litany of the Saints after communion. It was so very special, such a peace came over me - it was wonderful.

Was this picture from the funeral of a bishop or priest? If it’s from All Souls, why is the subdeacon standing at the east end of the catafalque?
