LOL – I kept waiting for one to show up, guess I’ll get it going…

Shannon…actually kind of glad she’s gone. Tho a crazed grief-driven Sayid isn’t exactly what they need right now…or maybe it is…curious to hear the story of the tail section of the plane, and can’t wait to see Rose get back to her hubby! It’s supposed to be a long episode tomorrow night?

I wanted Shannon gone a long time ago - just couldn’t stand her “look at me I’m so pretty and pouty” face! Was kind of glad when her brother got offed too, he was a whiny guy too. Where did the guy from the hatch go?

I don’t know – and someone on another board mentioned he grabbed a dharma teddy bear off the shelf when he ran out…hmmm…

yeah, shannon was annoying as all get out! Just the first episode…her standing there screaming hysterically…and then the whole “Boone” thing – I didn’t like him either, he was just so…“pretty boy rich kid with nothing better to do than lust after his step-sister” – tho the background story on shannon last week, you’d have thought she was smarter/more mature because of it, kwim? (the wicked stepmother thing)

After last night’s episode, it occurred to me that there are an awful lot of unbelievable coincidences going on.

First of all, they’re flying across the Pacific, and they just happen to crash at an island. The Pacific is huge, and there really isn’t that much land in it. What are the odds of that happening?

And then, last night, the people from the tail section had a radio they turned on only two minutes a day. And they just happened to pick up Boone’s mayday from the smuggler’s plane. What are the odds that they would be listening during the only two minutes he was broadcasting? And on the same frequency?

The guy Jack ran into at the stadium is the same guy who’s been living down the hatch? The numbers on the hatch are the same as the lottery numbers? (Chances of that happening are one in 14 million.)

Does anybody else find this to be a bit much?

So the rumours about the tail end of the plane are true. Ahhh I should really stop looking on these threads, it really ruins it for myself!! 😃

No, it’s called “suspension of disbelief” – and the numbers – Hurley played them b/c the guy in the mental institution kept repeating them…the guy was stationed in the pacific at a listening tower for the military…apparetnly those numbers were all they ever heard while stationed there alone (perhaps that guy was part of the dharma project and not a military listening post?) – yeah, ok, the boone transmission was weird, and very coincidental…but the numbers thing isn’t, and the rest of it all ties together; I think we’re going to learn that Jack let Shannon and Boone’s father die to save his future wife (who later dies, I read in spoilers)

I’m familiar with “suspension of disbelief.” I’ve written three fantasy novels.

However, each story has its own “world.” For example, in Star Trek, we can believe there is a Vulcan named Spock. That fits in that “world.” But if Captain Kirk all of a sudden sprouts wings and flies without any explanation why that should happen, that wouldn’t fit in that “world.”

Since Lost takes place in our “world,” these coincidences are a bit much, unless the story gives us an explanation for them. I’m well aware that an explanation may be forthcoming. That was my entire point.

Thought I’d re-open the discussion.

My husband noticed something in last Wednesday’s episode. There’s been some controvery about whether the story takes place in the present or the past (like the time of all that stuff “down the hatch”). Well, in the last episode, Kate is at a bus station buying a ticket. And we’re shown a close-up of the money as she pays for it.

Two of the twenties were the new kind. Those have been in circulation only a few years.

Since this is a series full of “clues,” and we were shown the money in a close-up, my conclusion is that the story takes place in present day.

I just came across this thread in an unrelated CA Forums category. I found it very interesting in the greater discussion of any possible Catholic influence for the show.
