I’ve looked over several threads on the pros and cons of the Alpha course. Can anyone recommend a program that’s like Alpha and aimed at seekers, the unchurched, maybe the Christmas/Easter-Catholics, etc. but is more explicitly Catholic?

Cursillo is the best alternative I’m aware of. Different format (weekend vs. series of sessions over several weeks), but powerful in terms of re-awakening faith.

I have done Alpha a few times and my husband is a facilitator for Alpha. He was a Methodist and after doing the Alpha course at our Catholic Church it inspired him to look into the Catholic faith in more detail. The point is that it awakened him after so many years, to search for The Truth. He converted to Catholism a few years back which was absolutely fantastic but the point I am making is that a lot of people need to do something like an Alpha course to rekindle the fire within them first. I had tried to get him to study our faith but he felt threatened - like I was trying to shove it down his throat - so Alpha, being non-denominational, but held at our Church with a lot of Catholics in attendance, was great. I also enjoyed it.

What we decided to do after Alpha, was to study the dvd’s of Scott Hahn. Also on a once weekly basis. I think the story of his conversion (I used to send it out to anyone questioning what Catholics believe) and that of his wife Kimberley are fantastic. The series is about 36 long and just brilliant.

His book about Returning to Rome - sorry I forget the actual title name, please can someone help me out here - is also about his conversion and is packed with all sorts of dillema’s that he faced about the Catholic faith. My brother read it, after not attending Mass for probably 20 years, and it completely changed his life.
