Hello I am a 50-year-old mother of two teenagers, just divorced after 18 years living with a un stable BI polar verbal abusive husband. When I went to my parish priest for council he told me yes you need to get divorced for you and the children. I supported him through the whole marriage. Now every time we have any communications he always makes a comment like your sins remain, I will continue to pray for you, I am praying for your selfishness, You are a sinner.
I am trying to make this short. I was raised Catholic and still attend today and I am very active. I am the head of finance ahead of the weekly counters and on the cemetery board and did prison ministry for a long time. I filed for divorced over a year ago and he made it tough so it was just final. His problem now is he found out that one of the prisoners that was in my prison ministry class writes to me and I write back to him. We have a very strong spiritual bond and like to share it. I have never been UN faithful or dis honest to my x the whole marriage. He has blown this all up. My God is a loving and forgiving God. I am not sure where he is coming from? Any help words of wisdom please?

Hi,

His communications with you have denial and manipulation written all over them. He blames you because he won’t own up to his own misbehavior. Well, your ARE a sinner–but not the worst. We are all sinners-including him. There is no reason for you to feel intimidated by him. Just pray for him.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
