Am I absolved of my sins?

I’m having a bit of an issue with a particular priest at my church.

He interrupts me after each sin to discuss it. I find I can only get through 4 or 5 and then gives me penance and tells me to say the Act of Contrition. He is hard of hearing (I already accept that half the church knows my sins) and there is a real language barrier. It’s always rushed and I come out feeling, well kinda jipped.

Where I live, confession is only offered twice a week but I can only make it to one. There is a revolving door of priests that do confession before (and during) mass but recently he is doing them more often. I feel the need to have confession on a weekly basis, otherwise I would never be able to have the Eucharist. Making an appointment with another priest just isn’t feasible for me and it’s not my preference to sit face to face.

Essentially I would like to know if I have indeed been absolved of my sins. Can I accept the Eucharist under these circumstances?

If you are truly sorry within your heart, you absolutely are absolved.

You had every intention of confessing all your sins. If the priest stops you because he is pressed for time or any other reason, and then absolves you, you’re fine.

Edited to add, it may be that the priest either thinks you are being a little too scrupulous, or he’s taking a “quality over quantity” approach by discussing individual sins during your time together rather than letting you make a longer list. I’d say leading with the most troublesome or biggest sins would be a good approach with this priest.

Yes. This man has had a long vocation of offering Reconciliation to all kinds of people. Cut him a little slack, eh? You’re not gypped, you’re blessed.
Be at peace.

Yes, you’ve been absolved of your sins. There may be reasons that he has to cut you off, reasons that have nothing to do with you. Remember, the Ten Commandments are our guide. The average Confession shouldn’t last more than 10 minutes. Any longer and you should probably make an appt even though it may be uncomfortable for you.

When I can’t remember all the sins I want to confess or need to, I say, “For these and all the sins of my past life, especially those I can’t remember right now, I ask forgiveness.” And I leave it to Jesus who forgives us our sins.

Also, there are many for whom Confession is a daunting experience. My mother is a convert and always feels uncomfortable with it. She doesn’t always get the words we say right. But it is the condition of the heart that matters. Jesus is always ready and willing to forgive us our sins as long as we confess them with a sincere and contrite heart.

yes. I have looked into this thoroughly, as I was cut off during my first confession, and one or two since then.

suggtion, show him a list. He can’t cut you off then!
