She can go on-line to the Social Security Death Regster, and request a search for him, if she knows the state he is in, or has his social security number. That is how I found out my first husband had died when I was seeking an annulment. If he is dead, which doesn’t seem likely at the young age she apparently is, she can then go to the Vital Statistics department of the state of his residence to get a copy of his death certificate to submit with the annulment information. And if her ex is dead, how is she supposed to know this for a fact? If he has moved away, I doubt anyone is going to email her with the news, or send her a copy of a death certificate. In theory, she could be wrongly stuck in this circumstance for the rest of her life, and that’s not fair!
