Am I allowed to go to confession if I am not yet a Catholic?

This past Saturday I took my boys to confession as they had very openly defied the 4th commandment, and as I was leaving the house my wife told me to do my confession as well. I was confused by this as she is well aware that I haven’t been baptised yet and don’t start cathechism until September, which I am very much looking forward to. Is it ok, or valid for me to go to confession at this stage? Should I wait until it is time for my first communion?
