Am I being naive about convalidation?

My husand was raised Anglican but prides himself in being a heathen and I was raised a Jehovah’s Witness. As a result. we had a Civil ceremony. Four years ago I became Catholic and I asked my Parish Priest if I was really married and his answer was not in the eyes of the Church but a marriage exists. I have thought about convalidation as if I received marriage as a sacrament I feel truely married and I thought it may bring more peace to my marriage as we have experienced a lot of difficulty recently. Therefore, I need to know if I am I being naive about convalidation bringing peace to my marriage and wanting to convalidate for the wrong reasons and is it necessary in my situation? I also don’t believe my husband would agree to convalidation as I think it involves some form of formal ceremony.

The Catholic Church does recognize as valid the marriages of non Catholics. So it does indeed recognize your marriage as valid. Since both you and your husband are validly baptized, it is also sacramental. There is no need for a convalidation.
