Am I being vain or just scrupulous?

So I went to Sunday Mass this morning, as usual. It’s not that hot today, so I wore jeans instead of shorts. My tennis shoes are pretty beat up and make long pants look saggy, so I wore my cowboy boots, which are much nicer but hurt my feet. I also wear them to work, and have really made my feet hurt. I didn’t want to look dingy for the Holy Mass, but the boots may be damaging my feet for all I know. Is this vanity or scrupulosity on my part?

Try not to be slovenly by choice, but assuming the clothing choices you’re listing are what you have to choose from, and you comb your hair if you have a comb, all of that, you do the best you can and God bless you. Maybe you could’ve gone either way, who knows.

Besides, there are places where jeans or shorts are part of the same attire one would wear to a wedding or any other event of a solemn nature. If that is the local custom, then anything modest that is respectful clothing by local custom is OK.
