hi, im a Sophomore in College studying Pre Med, and i keep having this desire to become a priest since about July 2009, and i keep telling myself i should become a doctor and get married and such and then i think about god calling me to be a priest, and i get this strange warm feeling whenever i think about it, and i looked at videos of seminarians learning the mass, and i can just imagine myself wearing a cassock and surplice doing that, and ive prayed to god asking him to show me what im called to, and i keep thinking about the priesthood

so do you think im called to be a priest

and i plan on taking philosophy classes too next semester.

It sounds like there is definitely a reason to look into whether the priesthood is what God is calling you to. For me, I can relate much so to how you are describing feeling called. However, do not take my response as an indication either way. For me, what was helpful was finding a spiritual advisor and talking with my parish priest to see what action needs to be taken. I found spiritual direction especially helpful in becoming closer to God in my prayer life and discerning. I also find that going to receive the sacraments (going to Mass and reconciliation) as much as possible is a good idea. Perhaps consider some time in adoration if this is possible in your parish. The best advice I can give is this: remain docile in the Father’s hands. He knows what He is doing.
Best of luck!

I’d recommend talking to the Vocations Director of your diocese (usually the diocese where you come from, but that’s not a hard rule). It’s his job to help men discern a vocation to the priesthood.

I saw a website that might help you with discernment:

vocation.com/

Good luck in whatever you decide. 👍

Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blest is the fruit of thy womb, Jesús. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. :gopray:

thank you, ive been praying a lot for my vocation, i plan to find a spiritual director soon

so let the lords will be done

how can i not tell myself “gods not calling me to be a priest”

that thought has been in my head too

i have decided living in an Order would be for me

the orders i have the most interested are Carmelite monks and Trappist Ciscterian Monks,

Pray the rosary. Go to daily mass and Eucharistic Adoration as much as possible. Just remember that it’s not what you want, it’s what Jesus wants for you. The only thing you own in this world is your sin.

thank you, ive decided being a diocesan priest would be best for me, since the nearest carmelite and trappist orders are 500 miles away and i want to still be close to my family

im still discerning gods will

I’m going to say no, nor are you called to be a doctor, and I’ll tell you why. Look at what you wrote above. Your punctuation and capitalization is erratic. Your first paragraph is one long compound sentence made up of nine (yes, nine!) clauses. If I received such a letter from any professional, let alone a priest, I’d seriously consider if I wanted him to work for me any longer. This isn’t something only a nitpicking grammar Nazi would pick up; no, this is just a sign of intellectual sloth.

I’m sorry to have to put it so bluntly. You have every right to explore a vocation, whether within the Church or the secular world. However, if there is something you’re truly called on to do now, it is to pay far more attention to your writing.

God bless.

Whoa! The last two messages leave something to be desired, but I will weigh in with what I would think is the obvious answer. There is nobody here on this forum who can tell you. It is between you, the LORD and His Church (which means the vocations director). 👍

Certainly many feel what you are feeling. I am a married man with two kids nearing fifty who would gladly go to seminary for the priesthood if I could–but I can’t. I am first of all a husband and father, who does his damnedest to inculcate his wife and children in the Truth, the Way and Life. You appear to be merely twenty years of age. My only advice to you (other than speaking with the vocations director) is to savor this age, explore and learn as much as you can–always with the LORD and His Church forefront in your mind. Educate yourself in many fields, become the best you you can be. Holy Mother Church needs good and well educated priests and deacons–may you, perhaps, be prepared to be one of them. May God richly bless you on this, your life’s journey.

Vivat Jesus!

Well, since I’m the only one to appears to remember your thread that was deleted, I would say no.
You can speak to the vocations Director, but I would STRONGLY urge you to be honest with his, especially in reference to that earlier thread. And then, of course, defer to his decision.
