I read your question as, “Am I enabling my husband’s irresponsibility?”
I have to answer that with a “Yes.”
Do not listen to a prior post that told you to stop complaining–as if you should shut up and put up. But, listen to it in the sense of the fact that complaining in the air will get you nowhere. Action is required and it will be difficult.
I know how you feel. Witnessing angry outbursts leaves you scared and wondering about where the unpredictable behavior might go next. He is using the anger to stop the communication - to stop you from talking about what he doesn’t want to hear. To control. Expecting and fearing the wrath of a man’s anger can make you change your behavior in ways you don’t even realize to cope and avoid. You likely just try to get through the day and maintain and disconnect a bit to accomplish what is expected of you on a daily basis.
The immaturity, lack of self esteem, lack of self control is evident. Now, what are you going to do differently? Because, unfortunately, I know from experience that reasoning with someone that is being unreasonable will get you nowhere so you must change your behavior, reactions, and get outside support to keep you strong.
Go to your priest. Hold nothing back. Tell him everything. Ask for a referral to counseling (Barnabas centers do counseling based on income and are Christian based). You should not do this alone, especially while pregnant.
You must stop this cycle and be brave. You owe it to yourself, and to your children, to not put up with this abusive behavior.
