Am I really a Catholic?

I have a very troubling question. I was baptized as a baby in the Catholic Church, but I did not do the catechism. At 30, I went through baptism and catechism in the American Catholic Church; I was told that the American Catholic Church was “approved” by the Vatican. Can anyone confirm or clarify this for me? I am trying to join Knight of Columbus and I have been attending mass regularly. I just hope I have not made a terrible mistake. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated.
