Am I right to me concerned about this?

Perhaps it is just me being scrupulous, but it bothers me that one Catholic church that I have recently attended does a few things differently- during a Sunday Mass in the Easter season, the Gloria was omitted and during the Christmas season, the hymn “Angels we have heard on high” was used to replace it. Also, they have a children’s liturgy (which I like) but the woman who leads the children out wears an alb and stole. Am I right to be concerned and should I do anything about this?
In Christ,

Hi,

This concern of yours is legit. Only one who has received the sacrament of Holy Orders is entitled to wear such a stole. As for dropping the Gloria in favor of a hymn, Canon 846, paragraph 1 states:

“The liturgical books approved by the competent authority are to be faithfully observed in the celebration of the sacraments; therefore, no one on personal authority may add, remove or change anything in them.”

You ought to tell the pastor. Write him a letter. You may quote what I have written here. If he ignores you, send a copy to the bishop, explaining why. You are in our prayers.
