I am English and my husband is American. Until two years ago I lived in the US with my family and then we moved to Germany for my husband’s work. During the 15 years in America I only saw my younger brother about three times because we were both raising young families.
My brother is 40 this year and because we are back in Europe I told my brother (after checking with his wife and my husband) that I would take him on a trip to any city in Europe for a weekend. Well he totally amazed me by choosing Rome! Today he called telling me he’d booked his flight and I asked if he knew what he wanted to do when we were there. He said yes he wanted to go to the Vatican. I started to say “Yes the museum is beautiful there…” but he interrupted me and said “No, not the museum I want to go to the church” !!!
My brother and I were raised without faith. Our parents died when we were young. By 16 my brother was orphaned. I converted to Catholicism at 19. After my conversion I was so amazed because I couldn’t understand why God had revealed himself to me as my brother was the “good” one. To me he has always had natural goodness and generosity. I had a priest pray for my brother’s safety and conversion over a little wooden crucifix I got at Walsingham walsingham.org.uk/romancatholic/ and gave it to my brother. I don’t know if he still has it but about 10 years ago (i.e.15 years later) he still was carrying it in his pocket every day, he showed me! I was stunned as I had completely forgotten.
So I ask you to please, please pray for my brother, his wife and three children. I believe the children were baptized Anglican but they never go to church.
We go to Rome at the end of May.
