Yesterday my 3 yr old DD got into trouble for yelling at her 18 month old sister, which scared her and made her cry. The 3 year old was sent to a corner, while I consoled my other daughter. As I was sitting about 15 feet away I could hear my 3 year old mumbling something. I thought she was whining about being in the corner so I said, “I don’t want to hear you when you are being punished.” She retorted, “But I’m praying!!” I said, “Oh.” (dumbfounded) After a few minutes I called her over and we went over why she was punished and all and then I asked her what she was praying. She said, “I was saying my Dear God prayer.” So I asked, “What is the dear God prayer?” She said, “Dear God, It’s me Gracie, I’m sorry I yelled at my sister I won’t do it again. I love you. Amen.” Tears sprang to my eyes and I hugged her so close. She’s THREE!!! I will treasure this forever! Just thought I’d share.

What a great story! Don’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen too often during your fights when she’s an adolescent! lol.

Beautiful story, Jenny! Thanks for sharing.

If you don’t mind, I’ll add one of mine.

My older daughter had been serving morning Mass every day when our priest became very ill (he later died). In the meantime, another priest (let’s call him Father John) came to offer daily Mass, and my daughter served for him. She was the only altar server who ever showed up for daily Mass. When our priest died, we were assigned a new pastor, and just before Father John left, he gave my daughter $20 for helping out for so many months.

Our new pastor arrived, and of course my daughter began to serve for him. One day she mentioned that this new priest gave her a blessing after every Mass she served.

“Father John gave me $20,” she said. There was a little pause, then she added, “The blessing is worth more.”

Sometimes we learn more from our kids than they do from us.

That isn’t so amazing. If she was a teenager and it happened, that would be amazing. :rotfl:

That’s a great story. I have one also. One day at school while all the kids were playing at recess, a teachers aid saw that a young boy was not playing with the rest of the class but was saying the rosary. The aid asked him what he was doing and the child said he was saying the rosary and praying. The aid asked him who is he praying for and the child said he was praying for his dad, because he is a bit lost right know and he wants Mary and Jesus to save him. The aid went to tell the teacher and they both broke out in tears.

Why is this story so meaningfull to me because it was my son and the teacher and aid are both my friends. They told me about it and it was then, that I decided to come back to Church. It’s been the great the past couple of years. I love how Jesus uses the little ones to reach out to adults.

What an awesome story! It sounds like your daughter has a wonderful mother who taught her how to pray!!! 🙂

Well, hey, thanks for making fun of something really wonderful that my daughter said.

And, for your information, she wasn’t a teenager then, but she is one now. I asked her about it, and she still thinks the blessing was worth more.

I thought your story was beautiful. 🙂

(Maybe Timidity was refering to the original poster’s story of her 3 year old???)

No matter what, I still think it’s amazing and judging from the smiley face after the comment, I don’t think it was meant to be taken offensively. By the way, she did it again today: said her “Dear God” prayer when she got in trouble. I think we’re starting a good thing here, provided she knows that she really needs to be sorry and not just winning Mommy over with her sweetness. We’ll see how things go…

Thank you so much for sharing that story. My kids are waiting for me in heaven but I get to watch my 9 yr old nephew and 4 yr old niece learn the faith from me and from EWTN - my brother left the Church and their mom is what a call a ‘vague sort of Christian’.

When the oldest one, who is 16, is faced with a problem with his goofy parents, he says a ‘Hail, Mary’. When I asked him why he said it was because I told him (when he was 3) that the Blessed Mother will always be there to lead him to Jesus whenever he felt lost or off-track.

I didn’t think they listened. I was wrong.

On my way:

That is a very, very touching story. Thanks for sharing.

Good for you Jenny! Sounds like you’re doing a good job as a Mama!

As long as we are telling sweet stories about our kids…

My dh and I were driving with my 6 year old when all of a sudden she pipes up from the backseat “We’re rich, aren’t we.” Hmmmm, where did that come from, I wondered. So I did the ultimate Mommy Stall “We’re rich, honey???”

She said, “We have a house and we have food. We have everything we need. So we are rich”

Kids are so smart sometimes. What a cute story. 🙂
