America’s Best Idea

If you’ve never seen it, or even if you have, PBS will be airing the Ken Burn’s documentary “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea” each night this week at 9 p.m. Tonight’s episode is called “The Scripture of Nature.” This article has a good synopsis of each episode. woub.org/2016/04/14/the-national-parks-americas-best-idea-a-ken-burns-film/ It’s a great documentary!

This year is the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service and there will be lots of activities commemorating the parks, including free admission at times. I hope everyone will have the chance to visit one this year, they truly are the crown jewels of America.

I have been so blessed to visit many parks and plan to visit many more. I’ve been to Arches, Badlands, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Bryce, Canyonlands, Capital Reef, Grand Canyon North Rim, Grand Canyon South Rim, Great Smoky Mountains, Petrified Forest, Saguaro, Shenandoah and Zion. I hope to visit Joshua Tree next month and Carlsbad and Mesa Verde later this year.

I LOVE the Smokies. I live about very near Sumter National Forest (not a national park, but still cool). I have yet to explore it, but I have (briefly) been to Congaree National Park. We have a lot of nice State Parks in South Carolina. I LIVE in a long-leaf pine forest. I love hiking. Blame my mother on that one. I would not mind visiting more National parks. When I went to the Smokies as a kid, I thought it was one of the most amazing places I’d ever been. I still think that.

The Smokies really are great. That’s the most visited National Park and the one I’ve been to the most. I especially love the Cade’s Cove section.

You raise a good point about all the great state parks. I’m (RV) camped in a wonderful one in New Mexico tonight. This is the view outside my door.

You are so lucky to live in a pine forest! God’s creation is so amazing. It is my favorite church.
