Pediatricians Denounce Abstinence-Only Education
By LINDSEY TANNER, AP

CHICAGO (July 5) - A leading group of pediatricians says teenagers need access to birth control and emergency contraception, not the abstinence-only approach to sex education favored by religious groups and President Bush.

The recommendations are part of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ updated teen pregnancy policy.

“Even though there is great enthusiasm in some circles for abstinence-only interventions, the evidence does not support abstinence-only interventions as the best way to keep young people from unintended pregnancy,” said Dr. Jonathan Klein, chairman of the academy committee that wrote the new recommendations.

Teaching abstinence but not birth control makes it more likely that once teenagers initiate sexual activity they will have unsafe sex and contract sexually transmitted diseases, said Dr. S. Paige Hertweck, a pediatric obstetrician-gynecologist at the University of Louisville who provided advice for the report.

The report appears in July’s Pediatrics, being published Tuesday.

So, the abstinence only program is flawed because teenagers might not adhere to it…:hmmm:

Using that logic, teaching teenagers to use condoms is a terrible idea, because they might not listen.

There’s no money to be made by saying “no”.

Culture of Death alert! Culture of Death alert! Let’s stop taking our children to the pediatrician! They are clearly a bunch of liberals intent on destroying our Sacred Culture of Life!

These professional groups certainly reject the truth. That is why we need to question there stances. Like the APA, they foist agit prop as science on the public.

And my question would be, WHAT research??? I’ve read the research, the only people saying it is ineffective are people getting thier facts from Planned Parenthood’s AGI, oh yes, sooo unbiased.

Even doctors get thier info from them. Just because someone is a doctor doesn’t mean they aren’t politically brainwashed.

Norbert there are general practioners or “family physicians”.

Isn’t this the same group (is was a pediatician org of some sort) that a few years ago advised doctors to query kids about whether there are guns in the home, if they ever get a chance without the parents in the room?

Preach abstinence? Of course not!

Why would doctors want patients to follow a medical regime that actually works, 100% of the time?

BTW, I refuse to believe that this generation has less self-restraint than previous ones. If I were a teenager today, I can’t begin to tell you how insulting I would find that.

Oh yes. The UN consultation “scientists” in our prestigious universities complain about the AIDS rate is not decreasing but increasing despite years of UN programs. They are upset at Bush’s fundamentalist, homophobic, anti-sex policies and conservative Christians like him that are behind the UN’s failed programs. At the same time, the country in Africa that promoted abstinence the most versus the other B and C portions of the crazy ABC model; Uganda - has seen their AIDs rate decrease dramatically.

Logic and reason are not in the eye of the anti-religious.

Here is an example of the extremes NARAL is willing to go to mock the virtue of chastity and to corrupt the young. worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=45242**MATTERS OF LIFE AND DEATH

An affiliate of one of the nation’s leading abortion-rights groups is taking a hard-edged swipe at cultural conservatives by inviting young donors to a “Screw Abstinence Party.”

The Washington-state affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America says the first-of-its-kind fund-raiser tomorrow night in Seattle targets young professionals in their 20s and 30s. A promo for the event says: “Tired of Bush & Co. spending your tax dollars on abstinence-only-until-marriage initiatives that promote dangerous misinformation? Throw your hands up and say it loud: ‘Screw Abstinence!’” …

Oh yes. I’m so tired of abstinence. Just to tick those fundy conservatives off, I’m going to go have a big loose party, sleep with 50 guys, and then go have an abortion, and then wear an “I had an abortion” t-shirt.

Yeah, that’ll show them! While I’m at it, I’m going to go become a prostitute, and demand they legalize that as well. After all, it’s MY body.

How ANY Christian could possibly support Naral is beyond me. They HATE Christians.

By the by… is anyone else aware of the fact this “research” included programs where the students were lectured in an assembly setting ONCE as abstinence-only?

Any one else aware of the fact that they included schools which INCLUDED “abstinence-only” programs along with thier OTHER sex-ed curriculum and counted that as “abstinence-only”.

But of course, I wouldn’t expect people who don’t believe in morality not to lie when it suits them.

Oh sure, just like when they gave out condoms in schools years ago, It really cut down on teen prenancy:rolleyes: , yeah right:rolleyes: Birth Control to teens says one thing and one thing only…have sex, lose your self respect and look, if you use it right (most of these kids don’t anyway) you don’t have to worry. Birth Control + Teens = Disaster

some female college students prostitute for money
some prostitute just to show how liberal they’re
some believe abortion can make themselves more beautiful.

they’re small in number but they’re certainly more active in “preaching” maybe “uttering” is a better word
