I would like to know where the American Conference of Bishops got the authority to overule directives sent from Rome and to choose whether or not they will implement them in their dioceses here? For example, the mandate that only metal be used to hold the precious Body and Blood of Jesus during the celebration of the Mass. How can they decide that in the United States we should have an exemption and use glass containers, etc.? It seems that most times when the Holy Father or someone from the Vatican tries to correct some liturgical abuses our bishops just choose not to follow Rome’s direction. What happened to our being a “universal” Church?
