is this a good charity?
how do i find out what they use the money for that might be opposed to the teaching of our faith?

I do not believe that I have ever heard of the American Red Cross being involved in abortion or other activity contrary to our Faith. If one has any concern at all there is always Catholic Charities. Fort donating to the Katrina people one can go on line at The monies collected by check or credit card go for housing, clothing, job hunt assistance etc.

The International Red Cross society is more of a health and welfare agency.

The American Red Cross is chartered by the U.S. Congress to provide two services. Aid to families of military personel and Disaster services (prevention/mitigation/response/recovery).

Donations of money to the American Red Cross is not directly used for anything that is opposed to the Catholic faith.

American Red Cross Emergency services provides shelter, food and water, clothes, emergency medical and mental health care, medically necessary medicines, communications with family members, cleaning supplies, necessary household items and some repairs.
