At the conclusion of HIS life, through the pain that no other human has known, JESUS said, “Forgive them FATHER, for they know not what they do” - paraphrase.Yes, I agree. I just realized though that I forgot to add an important qualifier: God shows that he loves us in spite of our sinful nature only if we show repentance.
This is not a GOD who is quid-pro-quo. HIS sacrifice was for those whom HE knew would love HIM, as well as for those whom HE knew would reject HIM.
GOD did not use HIS passion and death as a “door stop” for our free will, i.e. to force us to chose HIM. We can still slam the door shut. But ! HE will not walk away from a shut door. No, instead HE stands patiently knocking, knocking, knocking. Hoping that the intercession of the prayers on our behalf - from our friends, family, Mary Mother of GOD, our guardian angle, etc. will move us to open the door, but just a crack that HIS light may flood in.
GOD chooses ALL of us, and it is through our free will that we respond in loving HIM and following HIS commandments.
