An excommunicated priest for dinner?

Detroit Sue:
Reminds me of this.

There’s one of these churches near me - the “priest” is a married man who is an Episcopal pastor, and he holds these “Catholic” masses in his Episcopal church. There seems to be a lot of similarity in those schismatic churches…
Yup, that’s an unusual site as well. I particularly like the part where they describe themselves:

The United Catholic Church is a free association of individual Christians, independent churches, denominations, and interchurch fellowships. We embrace Roman Catholics, Old Catholics, independent Catholics, Orthodox catholics, Anglican catholics, and Protestant catholics.

“Protestant catholics”? Now there’s an oxymoron for you… :hmmm:

Blessings.

One: He didn’t seem to invite himself for dinner.

Two: “What would Jesus do?”
Someone who is prepared shouldn’t turn down too many opportunities to evangelize. Someone on the radio last week said “I want to go to heaven and bring as many people with me as I can!”

I am always saddened when I see a fellow priest fall away. Dinner probably won’t help him. I suggest you pray for him and perhaps write him to let him know you are praying for his return to the Catholic faith.

Good point. I’m also from Pittsburgh & know this situation only too well. One of our local papers held him up as some kind of martyr being persecuted by the evil Church bureaucracy, yap yap yap, and that made me downright ill. I suspect he has a very disingenuous purpose here, i.e. he wants to come to the house of us poor, stupid Catholics blindly following the dictatorship of our Church like so many sheep and convert us. Don’t fall for the bait, even if you’re tempted by the opportunity to confront him, because such a person is beyond that. If you really want to get to him, the letter would be much more effective even if he’d just throw it in the trash - there’s always the chance that if he reads enough of them, it might start to change his warped mind.

As we all know, prayer is the best weapon we have, and in these seemingly hopeless cases it’s often all we have.
