An "icon" of Christ

In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1142 states:
Code: 
 The ordained minister is, as it were, an "icon" of Christ the priest        

How is the ordained minister an "icon" of Christ?
 
An icon is a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something.

Perhaps in the way that a minister to a group of people at that particular location- The minister would be like the Shepherd Jesus, guiding them in their spiritual lives. The shepherd/minister taking care of the sheep/laypersons.

Alot of times ministers are great people to go to for advice, concerns, or questions spiritually as they have wisdom and can help guide you and help keep you on the path Jesus has intended- righteousness.

At least that is how I have always understood it.
 
The word icon come from the Greek εἰκών, which means “image.” The priest, in his ministry, is an image of Christ, the great high priest.
