I’m with you most of the way. But when he got to the over population part he lost me entirely. That’s the part I object to esp. for showing in schools. My kids, years ago, were to see a film about the over population and it’s impact on the environment. I objected and kept them home. I spoke with the admin. about showing a film rebuking the theroy and was refused. I pulled the kids out and homeschooled the rest of their education. (BTW they are both college grads today)
I’m a simple minded person who believes in following Jesus like a little child. We are all given different gifts. Environmental scientists have that as a vocation but secondary to following God’s law. We who don’t have the scientific gifts must follow those who do but try to differentiate which of them are in keeping with God’s law- to do no harm. Educators have taken a strong step toward miseducating our youth so that many of them will buy Gore’s message as an ultimate truth.

The most inconvenient truth of all is that Al Gore does not have a clue what he is talking about. At least, that is what I like to believe rather than believe he is intentionally lying and misleading people which is more likely based on his past actions.

And of course for the opposing view, there’s the book “State of Fear” by Michael Crichton.

I personally cannot stand Al Gore. I’m a fan of Rush Limbaugh (anyone listen to him). The convenient truth(?) is that the earth gets cold and it get warm. Global warming is when the earth is getting obviously warm. In the early 1990’s we were worried about global cooling. Well which is it? The cooling and heating of the earth is the nature of it. Al Gore is trying to put fear in everyone and people like Gene Lyons is right there with him.

Our children need to be raised with a strong environmental concious, but we don’t need to scare them at such a tender age. If we are careful to teach our kids respect and stewardship for the fragile earth that God entrusted to us, we don’t need such dramatic films.
However, for those adults out there who think that wastful lifestyles and depletion of our natural resources is no biggie, these movies are great.

Schools encouraging our kids to see movies that are not appropriate is not new. When I was in high school, Schindler’s List came out, and there was a big deal about all the kids going to the theater to see it… I opted out, as I easily get nightmares from violence, even (maybe especially) in the historical retelling. To this day, I have not been able to actually sit down and watch the movie. Still gives me nightmares to think about the atrocities against fellow man. Sorry, straying from the OP’s topic.

Definitely pre-screen any movies for your kids, but certainly support them in age appropriate activities that teach responsiblity for the enviro.
One of the many things that I am sure makes God smile 😃

oh, edited for addition: if you have questions about the truth about global warming, do a google search on “Glacier National Park”. The last report I heard is that the glacial ice will be completely gone by 2030! Very scary… Makes me want to take the kids to see them so that they can understand better, and at least be able to tell their kids about “the good 'ole days”🙂

All congradulations to Al Gore and team who won the Oscar last evening for making a film that forces the ‘nay-sayers’ to look at the other side of the global warming coin.
That’s, of course, if they would really look instead of dismissing the entire concept out of hand.

It seems to me that, for the liberal side, what Al Gore is promoting is neither inconvenient nor truth. It provides a convenient argument for larger government – “Look what the free market is doing to the planet!” And, it provides exaggerations of the likely consequences of global warming and man’s contribution to it.

The post preceding this one accuses those who disagree with current global warming theory of dismissing it “out of hand,” despite the many pages of research to which many posters refer. It seems to me that many global-warming believers automatically dismiss anything that doesn’t support their theory.

It occurs to me that the Chicken Little story was once a fable that warned against being an alarmist. A few years ago, it was released as a movie in which the alarmist chicken turned out to be right. I can’t help but feel that’s a reflection on our time – the Chicken Littles are believed and the skeptics are quickly dismissed as closed-minded.

My wife was watching the Oscars last night. I saw bits and pieces of it as I went in and out of the room. It doesn’t affect my life one way or the other - but I thought it was cool of Gore to spoof the whole announcement thing to have the music cut him off.

I am the poster preceeding you and “the many pages of research” you refer to as denying the theory can easily be matched with just as many pages of research in support of the theory.
Also, ‘it seems to me that global-warming deniers automatically dismiss anything that doesn’t support their theory.’
How anyone can deny that man has had a negative impact on the enviornment after this past decade puts me in mind of the 3 monkeys.
They cover their eyes
They cover their ears
They cover their brain (in lieu of their mouths - which they assuredly do not cover)

Back to Al Gore.
I’m so happy he won that Oscar.

We dismiss it because of the wave of climatologists and other scientists who immediately spoke up and said his claims are not supported by science and that he really does not know what he is talking about. We dismiss it because Al Gore is responsible for more supposedly harmful CO² emmissions in any given month than most people are in 20 years. And we dismiss it because of his well-established history of playing fast and loose with the truth (to put it politely).

Actually it is you who are engaging in exactly what you accuse others of. The “research” you refer to that supports Gore’s claims is not scientifically conclusive in the least. It is all based on computer models that can be made to produce any result you wish and which have a very poor record of accuracy. They are little more than a political tool. On the other hand, the research that you choose to ignore about how the sun is burning hotter now that at any time in recorded history, that the earth has indeed been hotter, and often FAR hotter than it is now, that human emmissions are responsible for only the tiniest fraction of total emmissions, and that the earth’s cycle is very predictable and nearing the end of it’s current warming trend (the main reason why there is such a push to inact panic measures now before everyone figures out that man-made global warming is nonsense and no one can deny it) is demonstrable scientific fact. You should really make sure you know what you are talking about before you make rude comments about how those who do not agree with you are “covering their brains”. In fact, you should not make such comments at all.

It truly doesn’t matter who has “true science” on their side…perception=reality…and Al’s on the right side of that for the moment.

Since you are not a moderator, I suggest you let them decide whether or not I’m rude.
Your opinion is only that - OPINION.
News Flash: Global warming is only nonsense to those who deny it even COULD exit. Saying that it “is a demonstratable scientific fact” is just outright not true. There is plenty of evidence for and against on both sides of the issue - for those who are willing to look.
Which, evidently, does not include you.

But the point is that liberals want to put an end to such discussion, legislating their environmentalist morality upon the populace and engaging in binding treaties, lest future leaders of the country dare disagree with their way of thinking.

Yet, Al Gore will continue to book private flights for himself as he sees fit, each trip releasing more CO2 than my car will release in a year, while pushing to force middle-class families to set aside even more money on hybrid vehicles that nobody wants, instead of investing it as they see fit.

I think, perhaps subconciously, the self-annointed left enjoys telling everyone else what they need to do under the guise of altruism, and global-warming theory is the convenient myth for that purpose at the moment.
How anyone can deny that man has had a negative impact on the enviornment after this past decade puts me in mind of the 3 monkeys.
Well, I’d hate to have you in be put into the mind of three monkeys – that sounds like quite an experience. But rest assured I didn’t deny the possibility that man has had a negative impact on the environment. I denied that he’s the likely the primary cause of global warming, which even the U.N. acknowledged. At best he’s a minor participant, from what I’ve been reading, and all our efforts to curtail global warming from our own efforts are unlikely to make a significant difference.

So, why force families to spend their hard-earned money on expensive vehicles with no pickup rather than things that might be more meaningful to them – say going on a family vacation, keeping a parent home, affording better education for the kids (outside the liberal public schools), etc.? Why take away their money so the government – rather than private enterprise – can give it to researchers to come up with other inefficient products for us to unwillngly consume? All that, so the limousine liberals can feel good about themselves? Can’t they just occupy themselves with giving each other Oscars and going to Barbra Streisand’s latest final concert?

I’ve read that the Earth’s temperature is now most likely cooler than it was in the Middle Ages, when Greenland was so named due to its lush greenery, before it became the popsicle we now know. The Earth’s temperature rises and cools all the time, and it isn’t always man’s fault. And, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The Oscars haven’t meant anything to me since “Cider House Rules” won. It’s just a way for Hollywood liberals to praise themselves.

I do not need someone else to tell me when something is rude but thank you for telling me I am not entitled to think independently, just as you do with this debate. I would also hope that you would stop making false statements and acting as though you know what others are thinking. No one has denied the existance of warming, just that humans are causing it, and the science undeniably supports this position. You can pretend people are saying what ever you want and you can pretend that the science that is not there but you are just exposing your ignorance of the subject matter and your refusal to face scientific fact. In spite of what you choose to believe, the ability we humans have to actually change the climate of this planet (even if we wanted to) is virtually null, especially in comparison to that of the sun.
It has been well documented that the sun has been burning increasingly hotter over the last several decades than it has at any time since we gained the ability to gauge it’s temperature. It is also true that this exactly follows the sun’s known cycle of warming and cooling which will be well back into it’s cooling trend by 2018. When that happens you can bet the Al Gores of the world we be screaming from the hilltops about the coming ice age that man is causing (just like they did in the 70’s) to continue their efforts to gain government control over every aspect of our lives (for our own good) and we will have to go through this nonsense yet again unless people like you start to do some actual research and start paying attention to what people like Al Gore are doing instead of what they are saying. Have you even read the Kyoto protocol? It has absolutely nothing to do with the enviroment and everything to do with socialist redistribution of wealth and government control of every aspect of life.

It truly doesn’t matter who has “true science” on their side…perception=reality…and Al’s on the right side of that for the moment.

John
If we are going to go with the “theory” that perception is reality, we are in deep trouble. I hope you don’t really believe that. Global warming, caused by man, is NOT a proven scientific fact. If it were, you would not have so many scientists disagreeing. Guess it just depends on who you want to believe.

rolls eyes My chiropractor has jumped on the Global Warming bandwagon. He’s encouraging people to rent it, and he is even going pay for the cost of the rental.

He’s a great guy, but just a little hippy-dippy / crunchy for me some days…LoL

Here is another inconvenient truth:
POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER ‘TRUTH’
**Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET **

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:

**Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy. **

**Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES). **

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

**The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average. **

**Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359. **

**Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006. **

**Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year. **

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to talk to talk, not just walk the walk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

**In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006. **

Yes, I am, too. At least he got to win something. I really don’t know where I stand on global warming, except that you can find as many “experts” on one side, as you can the other.

First of all, I would like to state that I have seen the movie.

Nothing irritates me more then people making judgements/statements/etc. about movies they have not watched themselves. This has happened with Inconvenient Truth just as it did with Mel Gibson’s “The Passion”,

I do NOT have an issue with the cartoon showing the polar bear looking for that iceberg and all the other graphic images used in the movie. Why? Do you think we would be eating dolphin-safe tuna today if it weren’t for the images of the dolphins being caught up in the fishermans’ nets? Don’t Pro-LIFE groups use photos/images of unborn fetuses/aborted fetuses to further Pro-Life issues? I find those images disturbing myself, but am NOT objecting to their use. (I’m Pro-Life, BTW).

As far as the movie being a politically biased movie. True, Al Gore does make some comments that have come out in earlier postings, he also says in the movie that global warming is something that both sides have to work on–be together on. And I have watched Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9-11”–and compared to that, Inconvenient Truth is PALE by comparison!

As far as the “science” in the movie. I live in Tucson, AZ and know many individuals at the Univ of Arizona–meteorologists, climatologists, and tree-ring dating scientists, among others, who found the movie ‘boring’ only because it was “preaching to the choir”. They agree with much of the science presented, and have their own research to back up global warming.

Whether Global Warming has a long-term impact on the earth or not may or may not happen. I do NOT think we should IGNORE science altogether and live as we currently are. This is the ONLY earth that we live on and I hate to play 'russian roulette" with our planet.
