An interesting exercise... what do you think?

I’ve been doing some thinking lately (always a dangerous thing).

I’m wondering what people would think about a mass according to the 1962 missal, but translated into English. I think it would be an interesting exercise.

I have no issue with the modern mass, as long as it is carried out properly, in accordance with the rubrics and any other relevant Vatican documents. I think that the main issues with the modern mass are people abusing the liturgy and poor education on what Vatican II was really about.

Not an option.

Cardinal Arinze specifically states that the 1962 Missal must be said in Latin and said by a priest who knows “good Latin.”

Thats quite interesting because in some threads from ages ago TLM advocates in these forums said it does not matter if a priest has studied and understands Latin but that he simply has to learn the Latin parts of the Mass by heart.
My reading of Cardinal Arinze’s comments is that he feels that a priest does need to know and understand Latin before being in a position to say Mass in latin.

At least speak and understand the text, but that could take well over a year or two. The two readings can be in vernacular, however, and that’s at the option of the priest.

He didn’t say in the video on whether the same is required for the Latin OF but I imagine it should be if it isn’t already. He does stress the importance of Latin in the video and also in his 2006 document:
