Today another lady at our Parish, the Priest ministering this week and myself were discussing bringing more people back to the Church.

What we happened upon was consecrating our community to the Blessed Virgin, but the idea came up to find a Miraculous Medal, have it blessed, then bury it in a nice part of the garden out the front of the Church. It is believed that this has before, and could certainly help us to win souls back into the Church.

I want to share this idea, and see the thoughts of CAF members. Is this uncommon, or is it something that really can work?

Please look up St. Catherine Laboure, Paris

I have been to that chapel when there was barely standing room at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on a weekday.

Learn the story of St. Catherine Laboure and the Miraculous Medal. Pray for her intercession.

I believe the church is already built on consecrated ground so I’m not so sure this would add anything.

However, you might want to bury a blessed miraculous medal in the front yards of the neighbors surrounding your home because the devil has shown he does not like blessed objects. It wouldn’t hurt to then say a prayer to Mary each day for your neighbors in keeping with her medal.

One way to bury the medal in you neighbors yard is at night. Take a knife and make a slit six inches into the ground from the sidewalk and then push the medal in with a paint stick. And while doing it say a prayer for them and tell Mary you are dedicating this property to her…

I really hate to admit this. But there are some people who might follow these instructions to the letter and then go back to make sure they were followed properly. These people can use prayers to Mary. So can I.

By the way, you forgot to mention that it is important not to choose a night with a full moon.

I didn’t know about the consecrated ground; what I do know is the Church itself would be consecrated. My Parish (going back a decade or two) had dedicated our small community to the Virgin Mary; which has certain helped in the adverse times that have come to pass over the years. 🙂

I don’t know about burying something on another person’s property. Personally, I would go as far as dedicating time to pray for them whenever possible, and using devotionals to help. But, it could be something of a “last resort” if you find the prayer just isn’t working as you feel it should…

You must be kidding about a “last resort”
Burying the Miraculous Medal. Yuk
I will apologize to Mary for that remark.

Apparently, post 3 has been buried.

I don’t mean it in the means you must have interpreted.
Going to another person’s property (not sure about how it works in the US, but here in Australia you property starts from the water meter, near the street (leaving a verge)) is not necessarily the right thing to do, even in difficult circumstances.
In such an instance, I think it would only be appropriate to do this is particularly desperate situations.

By the way; burning or burying Sacramentals is how they are to be disposed of when they are no longer wanted by someone. I’ve seen it mentioned here on CAF that Mother Angelica used these old Sacramentals in the construction of new Churches; so they would be buried in the foundations, walls etc.

Another example is the particles of the Body and Blood of our Lord are washed away in special basins that lead into the Earth; thus “burying” them…

I am sorry, but I do fail to see the objection here.
Burying blessed objects appears to be a norm.

I disagree. God answers all prayers.

People often think there prayers aren’t answered when they don’t get what they want. God gives us whatever is best for us. My prayer is just as much a conversation with God as anyone else is.

I see nothing wrong with dedicating your Church to the Virgin Mary. I did not intend to debate with anyone.

I agree with this statement, and I think the choice of words in that post before was very poor, at best.

Something I read a while back suggested our prayers may not always be heard if we aren’t really focussing on it, and just rattling away words and phrases.

The primary power behind all sacramentals is not the object itself, but the faith of the person who uses it. Thus dedicating that piece of territory to Mary with her medal expresses a simple trust and confidence in her love for us, as Jesus expressed it, “become as little children”, that is, a simple trust.

However there is another power behind them…the church. Some devils are in fear of blessed sacramentals. If there is no difference in blessed objects and those not blessed then why would the church recommend blessing things. There is something new about the medal, it has attached to it a special blessing. If this were unimportant, then the church would not tell us to exercise certain procedures in disposing of blessed objects.

And another power behind them is our prayer that goes with them.

It is a nice thing…especially with a full moon to see by.

My suggestion is very easy with Google or whatever search engine is used.

Something has to account for barely standing room during a weekday Sacrifice of the Mass. Maybe, I thought, Our Lady would help with your evangelization. And yes, there are people outside the Chapel who bless or pray over the purchased medals.

Here is a bit of information about the Miraculous Medal. It does not suggest putting it in the ground.

“The Virgin spoke again, this time giving a direct order: “Have a medal struck in this form. All who wear it will receive great graces-” Then the vision of the Virgin turned completely around and on the other side appeared a large letter “M” with a cross above it. The letter rested on a bar beneath which appeared two hearts. The first heart was encircled by a crown of thorns; the second was pierced by a sword. The explanation is simple. We are Christians, purchased by a God who was crucified in the very presence of His own mother, the Queen of Martyrs.”

I do lots of things that I wasn’t told to do. Just ask my wife about the “honey do” list. So with the medal as well…imagination and creativity is a wonderful thing. New ways to use the nice things we have is a good thing.

But if this isn’t a person’s brew of coffee, then so be it because it isn’t a commandment.
