Eleven or twelve years ago I had serious scrupulosity and I talked to a priest, looking for help. I’m writing a memoir of sorts, and I want to include approximations of those conversations. What might that priest have said? He didn’t know what scrupulosity was, note.

I guess, what would you say? What would be a “standard answer,” if there is one? What would seminary train a priest to advise?

If you’re writing a memoir, it should be based on your memories. What do you recall the priest saying? If you can’t recall, then perhaps you should skip that part.

I’m going for a more narrative, “based on” approach because my memories are declining in detail.

Maybe someone who has also had the same problem will write later and recall what they were advised.

Until then perhaps you could ask The Lord to help you to remember?
God bless.

Some, but not in enough detail to write much of the actual action, and I can only write so much in reflection.

If you don’t remember, it’s not really a memoir. At this point you’re just writing a novel, so feel free to improvise. Just make it clear that the conversation is fictional so you’re not attributing stuff to someone they might not have said.

Excellent and of course one would have to ask “the purpose of writing all this down is what???”
