Analogies to Explain Easter(Triduum)

Hi there, I am a Catechist and I teach 5th and 6th graders. This Tuesday I’m going to teach them about the “Easter Triduum” and “Easter” and I was just wondering if there are any good analogies to explain what it is and what it means to us Catholics. Thanks =D.

No analogy needed. The Triduum is us walking with Christ to witness all that He gives us for our salvation:

• The institution of the Eucharist at the last supper, where he gave us His body and blood to enable us to share in the sacrifice of the New Covenant.
• His agony in the garden of Gethsemane, where we can gain some perspective on our own trials and sufferings by witnessing Jesus’ very human fear transformed to solemn acceptance of God’s will.
• His trial and suffering at the hands of the Romans and the Jews – a very real and scary witness to man’s cruelty with the profound and humbling realisation of what Jesus endured for our sakes.
• His death.
• And then the solemn but hope-filled wait through Friday night and Saturday, for the moment of the resurrection.

The beautiful thing about the Triduum is that it is not an analogy, a story or a history but a living and real witness to the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord.
